Description
Camphor Laurel chopping boards are a superior wood for all your food prep and cheese/charcuterie board needs. Locally handcrafted in the Northern Rivers of NSW, these boards are naturally air dried for a minimum of one year. Unlike kiln drying, this slow drying process allows the slabs to obtain an optimal moisture level without 'stressing' the timber.
As the Camphor tree is considered a weed in this area, there is a clear environmental benefit to harvest it, allowing space for ecologically important species of trees to grow and regenerate. Camphor Laurel has strong antibacterial properties due to naturally occuring essential oils. This pleasant and distinct aroma will remain within the wood for years.
Each board is sealed with food safe grapeseed oil.
The large measures approximately - 20cm x 18cm x 3cm . As each board is a natural product; wood-grain, shape, and size will vary between each unique item. The board you recieve may not have the same grain pattern as pictured.
Care Instructions
Handwash in warm soapy water, rinse and leave to air dry. Do not soak.
Camphor Laurel boards are not suitable for the dishwasher.
When your board begins to look dull or dry, it is time to re-oil your board with a foodsafe oil such a grapeseed oil. This will generally need to happen once every 2-6 month depending on frequency of use. Apply two tablespoons of oil to each side of the board and rub in with a paper towel or cloth. Allow to sit for 20 minutes and wipe off extra oil.

Camphor Laurel is a noxious weed in Australia, drowning out sunlight for smaller plants and altering the PH of surrounding bodies of water through its toxic berries. The wood of the Camphor Laurel tree however is a highly usable product, often used in chopping boards, counters and furniture. The naturally occurring essential oils in Camphor Laurel help provide an antibacterial barrier that make it a fantastic food safe wood for chopping boards.
