Description

This intimate pair of small-scale canvases by Lennox Head artist Sharon McIlwain captures the MacDonnell Ranges as they awaken beneath the first light of sunrise. The rich red escarpments glow with warmth, their earthy tones deepened by subtle washes of golden light that gently reveal the ancient contours of the land. Rather than dramatic colour, McIlwain embraces the quiet transition of dawn, where the changing light enriches the landscape without overpowering its natural palette.

Her nuanced use of deep ochres, burnt siennas and the unmistakable reds of the ranges creates a profound sense of place, celebrating the timeless beauty of Australia's central desert. Though quietly understated, the work is imbued with warmth and atmosphere, inviting the viewer to linger in a fleeting moment when the landscape seems to breathe with the arrival of a new day.

BEHIND THE BRAND

Sharon McIlwain is an artist based in Lennox Head, Northern New South Wales. Her work is deeply inspired by the coastal heathland surrounding her home studio, where she creates both en plein air and in the studio. Sharon's paintings often explore themes of home, memory, and the interplay between simplicity and grandeur.

She has been selected for several national art prizes, including being a finalist for the Ravenwoods Australian Women’s Arts Prize. Her exhibitions, such as "Style de Maison," showcase her ability to capture the essence of everyday objects and their significance in our lives.
