Behind The Brand
Founded in 2023, Gardening on Country was created to support a circular economy by turning recycled plastic into practical, durable gardening products. Started by Mitch Skuta, a proud descendant of the Yuin Mob from the South-East Coast of New South Wales.
Gardening on Country diverts plastic from landfill and waterways, transforming waste into useful tools that honour Country and help protect it for future generations. Made in Australia from 100% post-consumer plastic bottle caps sourced from cafes, food vendors, and public donations.
Once collected, the bottle caps are thoroughly washed and sorted by colour. They are then shredded into small pieces and melted down using an extruder, which heats and presses the recycled plastic into moulds.
Gardening on Country is proud to partner with Country Needs People - an independent not-for-profit committed to championing Indigenous land and sea management across Australia. Country Needs People support, advocate and amplify the vital work of Indigenous Rangers, Indigenous Protected Areas (IPAs), and Indigenous caring for Country. They work to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in protecting and restoring biodiversity across their lands and seas while sustaining, strengthening and transmitting culture on Country.
