Behind The Brand
With The Tides is a studio practice rooted in devotion to the ocean and the natural world. Based along the Northern Rivers coastline of NSW, Australia, the artwork celebrates the transient, delicate beauty of washed-up marine flora through traditional botanical pressing.
Every design begins on the beach. Seaweed specimens are gathered by hand from the shoreline, taking only what the tide has already offered, never harvesting from living reefs or rock pools.
In the studio, each specimen is gently washed and floated on watercolor paper submerged in a shallow tray. As it settles into its natural form, the paper is carefully lifted out and transferred to a wooden press.
The pressing process takes days or weeks to complete. The resulting prints hold a tactile memory of a specific tide, weather pattern, and stretch of coast.
